Choose by entrance and onward journey
Arsenal is the nearby Piccadilly line station; Finsbury Park and Highbury & Islington provide alternative approaches. Arsenal’s travel guide describes matchday station management, so do not choose Holloway Road or Drayton Park only because the map places them nearby. Confirm current operation with the club and TfL.
A map may prioritize the nearest station while the club’s guidance accounts for the stadium approach. Read both before deciding. The correct route can depend on the stand and the direction you need after the game.
Keep enough walking time between the platform and turnstile. A crowded matchday approach is slower than an ordinary trip through the same streets.
Build from the hotel, not “central London”
London is too large for a generic centre-to-stadium estimate. Save the exact route from the hotel, including changes, step-free needs and the final walk. Check whether late engineering work affects the return.
Visitors arriving from an airport should go to their accommodation first whenever possible. Luggage adds risk at security and makes crowded transfers harder.
Expect a controlled exit
After full time, police, stewards and transport staff may manage streets and stations differently from the outward journey. Follow those instructions even when the route app still shows the original path.
A useful fallback is often another station or a longer first walk. Agree a meeting point outside the immediate stadium area if the group becomes separated.
Protect long-distance connections
Do not calculate the last train by subtracting ordinary Underground time from its departure. Include the crowd exit, station queue, interchange and a missed-service margin.
If the connection is essential, leave a larger buffer or stay another night. The cost of flexibility should be compared with the cost of missing the journey entirely.
