The decision before the detail
Follow the allocation and travel instructions from your own club. Manchester United currently places away turnstiles in the south-east corner and opens them two hours before kick-off. Missing away tickets require authorisation from the visiting club before collection at Supporter Services in W2.
What to know first
- Away turnstiles are in the south-east corner.
- They are scheduled to open two hours before kick-off.
- Your own club must authorise an away-ticket duplicate.
- E2 is the bag-drop location identified for away supporters.
Four away-day problems and the official route
We checked Manchester United’s visiting-supporter and safety guidance on 22 September 2026 and mapped each common problem to the club’s stated location or process.

Start with the visiting club
Your own club controls the away allocation, eligibility, ticket distribution and any official coach travel. Read its fixture-specific notice first. Manchester United’s guide explains the Old Trafford locations, but it does not replace the instructions attached to your away ticket.
Save both sets of guidance offline. If the match time, coach plan or collection point changes, the visiting club is the first place to check.
Approach the south-east corner
Manchester United locates away turnstiles at the south-east corner and says they open two hours before kick-off. Check the entrance details on the ticket and any map supplied by the visiting club before entering the stadium footprint.
Old Trafford has several public-transport approaches. The nearest stop in a journey planner is not automatically the simplest route to the away entrance. Allow time to walk around the stadium and follow steward directions.
Use the duplicate-ticket chain in the right order
If the away ticket is missing, contact the visiting club. Manchester United says it will not issue a duplicate without email authorisation from that club’s ticket office. Turning up with a purchase receipt alone may not solve the problem.
When a duplicate has been arranged, the club says collection is at Supporter Services in car park W2 from four hours before kick-off and requires valid photo ID. Confirm the arrangement before travelling and allow time to move from W2 to the away entrance.
Bring a genuinely small bag
The standard maximum is 20cm × 15cm × 5cm. Essential medical equipment and baby-changing items are exceptions, but all bags are searched. Contact the club in advance for larger medical equipment so security can be prepared.
Manchester United identifies E2 as the away-supporter bag drop, charges £5 and recommends arriving two hours before kick-off when using a drop. It opens four hours before kick-off and closes two and a half hours after the final whistle. Items are left at the owner’s risk.
Plan the exit before entry
Save the return route and a meeting point before going through the turnstile. Public transport and roads are busy after full time, and groups can separate in the first crowd movement.
If travelling on an official supporter coach, follow the visiting club’s parking and return instructions. Independent travellers should keep a second public-transport option and avoid a tight final train or airport connection.
Know the basic stadium rules
Everyone entering Old Trafford is screened. The stadium is non-smoking, including e-cigarettes, and dangerous or prohibited items are refused. Fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics and illegal items cannot be left at bag drop.
Check the full prohibited-items list close to the match. Rules and operations can change, and a league guide or older forum post is not the controlling source.
