For rail, Sandhills, Bank Hall and Moorfields are all within walking distance; Sandhills is the advised post-match station. From the centre, shuttle 919 runs from Commutation Row and 929 from Liverpool ONE on first-team matchdays.
Option 1: walk from Liverpool city centre
Merseytravel describes the stadium as within walking and cycling distance of the city centre. Walking removes timetable risk and can be especially useful after full time, when tens of thousands of people are leaving at once. It is not the right option for every visitor, so check the route, weather and your own mobility before relying on it.
Start earlier than the minimum time shown by a map app. The final approach may be controlled for pedestrian safety, and your turnstile can be on the far side of the stadium footprint. Save the return route offline and agree a meeting point if your group becomes separated.
Option 2: Merseyrail
Sandhills, Bank Hall and Moorfields are the three stations Merseytravel highlights as being within walking distance. Sandhills is likely to be the busiest and is the authority's advised option for travelling home after the match. Bank Hall or Moorfields may suit your origin better, but they do not eliminate the walk.
Matchdays can bring timetable changes and longer queues. Buy your travel ticket in advance, leave room for a later service, and check the Merseyrail journey planner rather than copying a timetable from an old article.
Option 3: matchday shuttle bus
Four commercial shuttles operate for Everton men's first-team fixtures. Services begin from around three hours before kick-off, with returns beginning shortly after the final whistle. These are route numbers, not promises of a particular departure time:

The 919 and 929 are the most relevant for many city-centre visitors. Drop-off and pick-up points are on or near Great Howard Street and can differ by direction. Follow matchday signs and the current timetable rather than expecting the return stop to be identical to the arrival stop.
Other options
Regular commercial buses also serve the surrounding area, but some routes are diverted on matchdays. Mersey Ferries may operate a special cross-river matchday service; the stadium is still about a 30-minute walk from the Pier Head. Cycling is supported with stands inside the stadium site along the dock wall.
Driving to the immediate stadium area is the least forgiving choice because surrounding roads and parking controls are designed around pedestrian safety. Merseytravel recommends parking in the city centre, Bootle or Kirkby and continuing by shuttle or rail. Never assume a street space visible on a non-matchday map will be usable for the fixture.
Accessible travel
A free accessible shuttle runs between Sandhills Station and Boundary Street, approximately 175 metres from the stadium. It must be booked in advance through Everton's Accessibility Team. The four commercial shuttle routes also stop at stadium-area stops used by passengers with limited mobility; confirm the right stop for your needs before travelling.
Plan the exit before kick-off
Your outward route may not be your best return route. Station queues, shuttle demand and an onward train from Lime Street can make a tight connection unrealistic. Keep a buffer, know your last practical service, and consider walking part of the way back to the centre before joining public transport.
